Here are a few ideas of Eyre-related books to read for this challenge (click on the covers for synopses from Goodreads):

There is also another related book coming out sometime in the summer that has no details or cover as of yet called Death of a Schoolgirl (The Jane Eyre Chronicles) by Joanna Campbell Slan.

And of course, the original counts!

Inspiration has struck again. I had been thinking of what I wanted to read for a read-a-thon I am participating in and as I looked through my books, I realized how many different takes there are on the Jane Eyre story, which I love. Then I asked myself, why not start a reading challenge for people to not only read the classic Jane Eyre but also related “Books of Eyre”? Thus, this challenge was born.

Details/Rules:

The challenge runs from 1 January 2012 to 31 December 2012 (any Eyre-related books you have already read in 2012 count).

All book formats are allowed for this challenge as long as they have an ISBN number or the equivalent. Fiction and non-fiction are allowed. Re-reads ARE allowed but your review must be a new one.

All the books read for this challenge must be related to Jane Eyre. Of course, the original counts as well as any remakes or spin-offs. That means for this challenge, read Jane Eyre and read books based on Jane Eyre, but not other books by Charlotte Brontë or her sisters.

Each month, I will create a new post dedicated to the challenge where you can link your reviews for that particular month. You can find the links to the monthly link-ups on the right sidebar under my challenge button. You do not need a blog to participate! Posting on Goodreads, Twitter, Facebook, or wherever you post your reviews is fine.

There is no need to list the books you will read for this challenge in advance. Feel free to list them as you go. Join the challenge at any time before 31 December 2012. Crossovers from other reading challenges do count.

When you sign up below, please post the direct link to the post where your books will be listed. If you are on Twitter or Facebook, post a status of what level you plan to complete and link that! If you are on Goodreads, create a shelf of books you hope to read for this challenge and link that! If you do not have any of those, just leave a comment on this post indicating you are signing up and which level you hope to reach. But it IS important that you leave the direct link. Do not just leave the link to your blog’s homepage or your profile, please!!!

Now, for the levels!

  • Student: 5 books
  • Governess: 10 books
  • Mistress of Thornfield: 15 books

For now, I am going to try for Student. There are quite a few books out there I have been eyeing and there are some coming out late this year and hopefully more after that!

As always, I appreciate feedback. You may find a list of Eyre-related books here. It is by no means comprehensive!  Also, if you are participating, grab the button:
